Celestial Church of Christ has, for decades, nurtured men and women who have distinguished themselves in ministry, business, education, public service, and humanitarian endeavours. As Nigeria continues to seek credible leadership capable of addressing the nation’s socio-economic and political challenges, it is appropriate for members of the church to reflect on the role they can play in supporting qualified individuals who exemplify integrity, service, and a commitment to the common good.
One such personality is Hon. Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, a devoted member of Celestial Church of Christ & the governorship candidate of PDP in Ogun State whose public life has been marked by philanthropy, community development, youth empowerment, educational support, and sustained engagement with the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. His commitment to humanitarian causes has earned him recognition across political, religious, and social circles.
For many years, Celestial faithful have prayed for greater representation in positions of influence. They have desired to see capable members of the church contribute meaningfully to governance while upholding the values of honesty, compassion, justice, and accountability. Such aspirations are not about seeking privilege but about encouraging leadership that reflects the principles Christians profess.
The Bible declares in Proverbs 29:2, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.” This timeless truth reminds believers that leadership matters. The quality of those entrusted with public office has a direct impact on the welfare of society. Christians therefore have both a spiritual and civic responsibility to prayerfully evaluate candidates and participate actively in the democratic process.
Hon. Adebutu’s identity as a committed Celestial member is one aspect of his public profile, but it should not be the sole basis for support. More importantly, voters should examine his record, leadership qualities, vision, experience, and commitment to policies that promote economic development, quality education, healthcare, youth empowerment, security, and social justice. Responsible citizenship requires informed decisions based on both values and competence.
Celestial Church of Christ has never taught its members to withdraw from national affairs. Rather, believers are called to be “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13–16), bringing positive influence wherever God places them. Politics, when approached with integrity and a genuine desire to serve, is one avenue through which Christians can contribute to national transformation.
This editorial therefore encourages Celestial members not merely to identify with candidates because they share the same faith, but to carefully consider those whose lives and public service demonstrate integrity, competence, compassion, and a sincere commitment to improving society. If, after thoughtful consideration, they conclude that Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu best represents those qualities, supporting him would be a legitimate exercise of their democratic rights and personal convictions.
Nigeria stands at a defining moment in its democratic journey. The future of the nation depends on the choices citizens make at the ballot box. Let every Celestial member approach those choices with prayer, wisdom, discernment, and a commitment to the common good. By voting conscientiously, rejecting violence, and promoting issue-based politics, believers can help strengthen democracy and contribute to building a nation founded on justice, peace, and shared prosperity.
The responsibility before every voter is not simply to elect someone who worships in the same church, but to support leaders whose character, competence, and vision offer hope for a better future. That is the standard by which every candidate—including Hon. Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu—should ultimately be judged.
